The Kenya Water Project
The Kenya Water Project is a project of the Sisters of St. Joseph which works in collaboration with local communities to develop plans to secure clean water for villages. Every year five million people die from water-related diseases. Most of them are children under the age of five. Unless dramatic changes take place, Kenya will not meet its Millennium Development Goals concerning water. Through the Kenya Water Project communities assess their needs and identify resources that can be used for the projects. Communities choose leaders and form Community Based Organizations to implement and manage all elements of the water projects. Find out more. |
Possumus Magazine: Human Migration
For the Sisters of St. Joseph world peace begins at home. This is meant very literally as hundreds of people flock to the Twin Cities seeking shelter in the face of war, hope in the face of poverty, and compassion in the face of brutality. Advocacy on behalf of immigrants is our opportunity to spread love that spans the globe. As Sister Irene explains in her letter, "For us, it is not a matter of politics. We believe it to be simply a matter of humanity. Caring for strangers in our midst is a logical extension of our mission that asks us to care for 'the dear neighbor' regardless of his or her status." Read this issue to learn how Sisters carry out this important mission. Find out more. |
